This piece represents an artist sailing on his own, solitary, piloting his craft on a very choppy sea. This sea, represents the Critic, sometimes strong and destructive. However, thanks to his music, his art, the artist succeeds in pleasing the waters and quieting them down - thus the artist through his patient and sustained creation can calm down the Critics. The bow of the ship bears a feminine form, symbolizing inspiration – on the body of the vessel, two winged lions, representing wisdom and protection – the stern is made of a human head personifying experience.
